What a VA costs in Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil in 2026, what local assistants earn, and what nearshore overlap is worth.

Updated: October 2026By: Jared DiamondData: 5 firm price pages, Indeed, PwC, EF

Latin America is the nearshore option for US companies: Assistants who work during the US business day, a few time zones away at most. This report covers what a VA costs in Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil in 2026, what local assistants earn, what employers must add on top, and how the region compares with the Philippines.

Quick answer: A full-time Latin American virtual assistant costs about $2,000 to $2,800 a month all in through most staffing firms in 2026, and up to $4,000 through managed agencies. Market rates run an estimated $6 to $12 an hour for general admin work. Bilingual assistants earn about $740 to $900 a month locally.

Basis: Published prices from 5 staffing firms that place Latin American talent, bilingual assistant pay from Indeed in three countries, 2026 employer cost rules for all four countries, and the EF English index, checked October 2026.
Range chart of general admin virtual assistant hourly rates in Colombia, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico in 2026
6–8 hoursHours of an 8-hour New York workday a Latin American VA shares in real time (US winter). Philippine and Indian VAs share none without a night shift.

Table 1: The four countries side by side

Rates, pay, employer costs, English and time zone, 2026.
Country Admin VA market rate Bilingual assistant pay Employer costs on top English (EF rank of 123) Hours vs New York (US winter)
Colombia $6–$10/hr About $895/mo 38%–56% 76th, Low 0
Argentina $6–$10/hr Not reliable (inflation) About 37% 26th, High +2
Brazil $7–$11/hr About $742/mo About 50% 75th, Low +2
Mexico $7–$12/hr About $814/mo 30%–40% 103rd, Very low −1

We found three things in this table:

  • Argentina has the best English of these four countries, ranking 26th of 123. That is above the Philippines, at 28th.
  • Employer costs run 30% to 56% on top of pay, about one and a half to nearly three times the Philippine level. Higher pay and higher employer costs both push nearshore prices up.
  • Colombia shares the New York clock exactly in winter. Mexico City is one hour behind, and Argentina and Brazil are two hours ahead.

Table 2: What staffing firms charge

Published prices for one full-time VA or assistant, from each firm’s own page, October 2026.
Firm Full-time price Terms
South $2,100 VA; $2,800 executive assistant All in; no minimums
Hire Overseas From $2,000 All in; month to month; covers more than Latin America
Hire With Near $1,800–$2,500 salary Plus a fee that is not published
Athyna $16–$18 an hour About $2,560–$2,880 a month at 160 hours (page does not say if this is client price or pay)
MyOutDesk $2,500–$4,000 Managed; Latin America tier

We found three things in this table:

  • Most firms land at $2,000 to $2,800 a month all in. Managed agencies with more oversight run up to $4,000.
  • The talent’s own pay is about $1,000 to $3,000 a month at these firms, well above local averages, since firms hire for strong English.
  • Ask whether a price is salary only or all in. Hire With Near publishes salary only; South and Hire Overseas publish all-in prices.

Table 3: Latin America against the alternatives

Full-time cost and shared hours with New York, 2026.
Option Per month Shared workday hours
Philippines, agency $1,500–$2,000 0 without a night shift
Latin America, staffing firm $2,000–$2,800 6–8
US admin assistant on payroll About $5,767 8

We found three things in this table:

  • Latin America costs about $500 to $800 a month more than the Philippines. What that buys is live overlap with your team.
  • It still costs about a third to a half of a US admin assistant once US benefits are counted.
  • For phone work, meetings and same-day turnaround, the overlap is usually worth the gap. For overnight back-office work, it usually is not.

Picking a country

Choose Argentina when English matters most, and Colombia when you want the exact New York clock. Mexico has the lowest average English score, so screen hard. Brazil works well for teams that also sell into Portuguese-speaking markets. Country-by-country rates for every market are in our virtual assistant cost by country report.

Conclusions

  • Budget about $2,000 to $2,800 a month all in. Pay up to $4,000 only for a managed agency.
  • Pay the nearshore premium for overlap, not for price. It buys 6 to 8 shared hours a day.
  • Test English per candidate. Country scores range from High in Argentina to Very low in Mexico.
